Mike DeWine, who had earlier tested positive for COVID-19 virus preceding a scheduled meeting with President Trump, in a second test ascertained negative results. Read on to know the complete details.

Richard Michael DeWine, aged 73, has been one of the most diligent endorsers of professing protective measures to curb the escalation of the virus in America. He was the first Governor to shut down schools in Ohio, declare a lockdown order, and zealously popularize the practice of wearing masks as a preventive measure. He is currently serving as the 70th Governor of Ohio and has been a preeminent figure in American Politics as a former United States Senator, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and a member of the Republican Party.

DeWine was supposed to escort Trump on the President’s visit to Whirlpool Corporation plant in Ohio on the 6th of August, 2020. The test conducted as a protocol before the meeting yielded a positive report and resulted in the revoking of the meeting.

The Testing Procedure

The first test conducted on DeWine was an Antigen Test or a Swab Test which generates immediate results but is infamous for its inconsistency. Later, a more conventional P.C.R or Polymerase Chain Reaction test conducted on DeWine, his family and staff members yielded negative reports. A P.C.R test is more complex and requires more time as the samples collected are assessed in a laboratory for the direct presence of an Antigen or more precisely, the Genetic material of the virus as opposed to an Antigen Test that can only detect the proteins present in a virus.

DeWine is the second governor to release his positive test reports publicly, the first being the Governor of Oklahoma Kevin Stitt. DeWine also stated that he will undergo a third test this Saturday to exterminate any confusion.

The Reliability of Covid-19 Tests

The discrepancies in Michael DeWine’s reports have raised numerous questions among the masses on the trustworthiness of the tests being used to detect the virus. A statement issued by his bureau assured that the manufacture shall be inquired to identify and terminate the cause of the disparity. In a news broadcast after the second test, the Governor referred to the first test as “a big surprise to our family.” He urges people to continue practicing Social Distancing and comply with the health advisories issued by the State despite the backlash he often faces for his assertive health policies and campaigns.
