Are you the one struggling to keep your skin healthy? Are you the one who is unaware of the skin types and routine? If yes, then you are in the right place. In this article, I would like to discuss the essential things that would help to have healthy and glowing skin.

Most of us ignore our skincare routine even I used to do that. But the moment I realized that following a skincare routine is essential for our skin to look healthy and glowing. And this what we all want. Isn’t it? And to get something good we have to give some time and effort. One more thing, it doesn’t matter whether you are covering your face thoroughly with a scarf or using an umbrella to save your skin from the suntan. Still, a healthy skincare routine is required to be followed. Also, using the right products once or twice a week is not a permanent solution to keep your skin fit. It is an ongoing process that we all are required to follow in our daily routine.

In simple words, our skin also required to have several good things, just like our body needs vitamins, fibres, proteins, and calories to work correctly.

Questions that will be answered in the article.

What are the Types of Skin?

To divide the skin types; there are four basics types of skin majorly seen. Those four types are.

  1. Normal
  2. Dry
  3. Oily
  4. Combination

Normal Skin

Normal Skin

Everyone wants to have a suitable skin type, but unfortunately, very few people are blessed with this flawless skin type. We can also call it a well-balanced skin as this skin type is neither dry nor oily.

Dry Skin

Dry Skin

One of an unbearable skin type. The dry skin type lacks a required quantity of moisture and building a protective shield against external influences. And all of this happens because of the less production of sebum.

Oily Skin

Oily Skin

People with oily skin types face an acne issue. A skin that produces an extra amount of sebum than required is called an oily-skin example. This skin type contains an enlarged pores, dull and thick complexion, pimples, blemishes, and blackheads.

Combination Skin

Combination Skin

You can either call it a mixture or combination of normal, dry, and oily skin types. Some areas can be dry or normal while some can be oily too, e.g. a T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin).

Moreover, there is one more skin type we’ll have experienced, i.e. sensitive skin type.

Sensitive Skin

A skin that holds redness, itching, burning, and dryness have sensitive skin.

Know Your Skin Type?

Know Your Skin Type

Do you know what your skin type is? Are you using skincare products that suit your skin type? If not then stop applying any product you find useful because that might work excellently for others, but there is no guarantee it would work positively for you as well. Make sure you know your skin type before you use any skincare product.

To identify your skin type, you can read the types of skin written above or can have a free online skin type quiz test.

Else, you can follow the following steps to know the skin type you have.

  • Remove all the makeup from your face
  • Wash your face with cold or warm water but do not over wash
  • Wait for an hour (Do not apply any Skincare product on your skin)
  • Take a tissue and drab on the T-zone (Forehead, Nose, and chin) of your face and then see if an oil rubbed-off on it. If the oil is there then either you have oily or combination skin
  • If you are feeling taut, then your skin type is dry
  • If your skin is getting red or itchy, then you have a sensitive skin type

And if you are unable to feel any of these things on your skin, then you have a problem-free skin, i.e. a typical skin type.

Pore size can also tell your skin type like a typical skin type contains the smallest pore visibility, but if you can see your pores even when you are standing quite far from the mirror, then you have oily skin type. You have dry skin when your pores are not at all visible. If a middle size pore is evident, later a combination skin type is occurring.

Moreover, the last option is to consult with a dermatologist if it fails to determine the type of skin you have. A dermatologist will give you a correct medication and procedure to all your skin problems along with a knowledge of your skin type.

Why is a Skincare Routine Essential to be Followed?

Why is a skincare routine essential to be followed

A skincare routine is essential to be followed consistently. Don’t you think that? Do you also believe there is a certain age where a skincare routine is required to be accompanied? To be honest, a skin routine should be followed according to age because our skin requirements and textures will keep changing according to the changes that will happen in our age too. The 20s skincare routine will not work in your 30s and 40s. But starting a skincare routine from an early age, especially in the 20s is a blessing as your skin will look healthy and radiant throughout your life.

But even if you are in your 30s and 40s and still you haven’t started a skincare routine, it is entirely alright. However, it might not work as fast as it could have done in your 20s, but it will work for sure. Here I would like to tell some significant reasons why a skincare routine is essential for everyone.

Help To Have A Flawless Skin

Help To Have A Flawless Skin

Our skin does contain a speck of dirt or debris regularly that causes dead skin cells and dull or patchy skin in the long-term. But if one follows the skincare routine consistently, then a healthy and pore-free skin can be achieved. Washing your face is the most important and easiest thing you should follow as part of a skincare practice. Additionally, eating healthy food and working out is also a thing to be added to the skincare routine.

Help To Serve Your Skin What It Requires

Help To Serve Your Skin What It Requires

When you adopt a skincare routine, then you are also required to discover your skin type. Because all the skins are different, so, a regular skin care practice will help you determine your skin type and the unique requirements it has.

Prevent Your Skin From Skin Problems

Prevent Your Skin From Skin Problems

This is an unignorable factor of why a skincare routine is essential to be followed by everyone. Evolving yourself into a regular skincare practice allows having fewer skin problems in the future. Afterall “Prevention is better than cure.”

A Money Saver Practice

A Money Saver Practice

Unknowingly, you are saving your hard-earned money by following a skincare routine consistently. The skin problem medications are quite costly. You are avoiding many terrible skincare issues (e.g. acne scars, deep wrinkles, and skin discolouration), that can be costly.

A Confidence Booster

A Confidence Booster

Everyone wants to look competent and confident. Who doesn’t want to? Even science has proved this human behaviour that an individual will look convinced when he/she look good. Undoubtedly, a skincare routine allowing to look good even the best. Thus, you will look confident with your clear and healthy skin. Hence, a skincare routine is a confidence booster.

What should be your skincare routine?

What should be your skincare routine

Now when you are aware of the essential things you have to do before you decide a skincare routine for yourself; a sequence of a skincare routine is also required to be understood. Let me clear one thing that, following a skincare routine is just not about washing your face and using sunscreen to keep yourself safe from the sun rays. A skincare routine does follow a sequence of using different products for different purposes.

Is Sequence Matters?

Is Sequence matters

Unfortunately, Yes. The sequence of using products in your skincare routine does matter. According to many certified dermatologists and dermatologic surgeons, the implementation of skincare products in a chain ensures to provide the full benefits to your skin. Also, to have the best results in the future, a correct order has to be followed in your skincare regimen.

Tip: Make Sure you apply the lightest first and the heaviest last in your skincare routine.

A Sequence Of Daytime Regimen

A Sequence Of Daytime Regimen

After all, you are trying to save your skin from the sun, pollution, and other infectious elements. So, the sequence of your skincare routine will be different in the daytime from a nighttime course. In simple words, the daytime skincare routine should follow a series that can protect your skin while nighttime should focus on skin treatments.

Clean Your Face

Clean Your Face

A foremost step to follow in your daytime skincare regimen. Cleaning your face with warm water is the best option. You can also use a cleanser that suits your skin type and wash your face gently.

Apply A Toner Or A Mist

Apply A Toner Or A Mist

I’ve seen people skipping this step in their skincare routine, but honestly, it is not good to do so. They might avoid applying a toner or a mist because of its harshness and irritating texture leaves on the skin. But now the solution is all here with a new breed of toners, so now you are not required to feel an itching and irritation on your skin. Toners are now available with a better delivery system for vitamin B and antioxidants. But make sure you use a correct toner according to your skin type.

Serums

Serums

Applying serums on the skin is the best way to receive concentrated nutrients, hydration, and antioxidants. Many people do skip using serums as they are not entirely aware of the benefits of it. But skipping applying serums in your skincare routine is merely leaving the critical part that hydrates your skin. If I have to showcase the difference between toners and serum in your skincare routine, then think toners are like a pint of beer while serums are like a straight shot of tequila.

A daytime serum must contain a Vitamin C in it, that helps to protect your skin from the direct damage that can be caused by free radical throughout your day. Applying serums is also beneficial to lighten up the skin tones and reducing the dark spots over time. People with sensitive skin can use the serums every other morning instead of using it regularly.

An Eye-Cream

An Eye-Cream

Like serums, applying eye-creams are also vital. There is not a specific age compulsion to start using eye-creams, you can begin applying it even if you are in your 20s. The application of eye-creams is mandatory to maintain the health and thickness of your eyelid skin. Regular use of eye-cream will keep the eyelid skin elastic and prevent the eyes from the beautiful lies. Moisturizer and sunscreen cream can also be applied around the eyes after applying the eye cream.

Tip: An eye-cream with a rollerball applicator works tremendously.

Spot Treatment

Spot Treatment

Applying spot treatment is also required in your skincare routine. It is essential to consult your dermatologist for what kind of spot treatment is necessary for your skin. In simple words, a prescribed spot treatment will work excellently. You are required to dab a thin layer over the spots or zits and at least wait for a minute to let it dry.

Make sure you do not use any spot treatment cream or ointment without consulting a dermatologist. The usage of any sport treater may cause more skin problems.

Moisturizer

Moisturizer

It doesn’t matter what skin type you have, applying moisturizer is essential. In simple words, you cannot skip moisturizer in your skincare routine. Undoubtedly, our body itself owns a natural lubricating system that produces sebum on our skin and create a protective layer against harsh conditions and infections coming from outside. Still, then most of us require an extra amount of hydration after the damage caused by the sun, pollution, and other harsh chemicals.

If you are the one who is also using a spot treatment, then have to skip applying the moisturizer on all those areas where you have applied a spot treatment because the ingredients of one shouldn’t interfere with another to work correctly.

Make sure you apply moisturizer is while the skin is still damp for the best outcome.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen

This is one of the important and the last step to follow in your daytime skincare routine. Sunscreens works to coat a protective layer on your skin to save you from the UV rays. You must have heard moisturizer and foundations with SPF 15, which is good enough. But SPF 30 is the bare-minimum requirement of your face. The two types of sunscreens are available in the market, i.e. Chemical and Physical.

Chemical sunscreens are quite challenging to use and absorb in the skin. It is required to be incorporated in the skin but if a layer of moisturizer is there the chemical sunscreen won’t penetrate. And if you apply it before applying a coating or moisturize, your moisturizer will not work effectively as your skin is coated with a chemical sunscreen.

Adoption and application of physical sunscreen that contains zinc in it is the best option. Zinc is safe and provides an unbreakable protection layer against UVA and UVB rays.

A Sequence Of Nighttime Skincare

A Sequence Of Nighttime Skincare

Most of us think that why should we also follow a skincare routine in the nighttime. Are you one of them? Let me tell you that the nighttime skincare routine is essentially the same as the daytime. In simple words, a nighttime skincare routine is all about giving a treatment to your skin what is required while daytime skincare allows having skin protection. Skincare routine on both the times is essential for the best results. Here is the sequence of products you should follow in the nighttime skincare routine.

Cleansing (Clean Your Face)

Cleansing (Clean Your Face)

Wipe off the entire makeup, dirt, grime, and oil using a dedicated makeup remover before you wash your face with a mild cleanser or face wash. You can either use a cleansing oil or a makeup remover to dissolve your makeup. People with sensitive skin are required to use cleansing oil as a makeup remover can be harsh on their skin.

The process of cleansing will prep your skin to absorb your skincare regimen.

  • Refresh Your Skin (Toning)
  • Apply a toner like a morning

There are many options to opt instead of toner to hydrate and nourish the skin in the night, and that includes skincare boosters, mists, essence, and water-based hydrating serums. The primary purpose of all these options is to hydrate the skin.

Eye-Creams

Eye-Creams

Nighttime skincare routine is all about treating your problematic areas. A gentle, soft, and fresh eye-creams are required to be used in the nighttime. It is not mandatory to have an eye-cream contains retinol in it to work on fine lines and dark circles. Understand that, your eye area is delicate and risky are. Eye-creams containing retinol can cause rashes and irritation.

So, a simple hydrating eye-cream will protect your eyes ideally even from the damage that can cause other skincare products you’ve used on your face.

Tip- If you are using retinol, then just do not use it on the spots that require treatment; apply it to your whole face for the best results.

It’s Time For Skin Treatment

It’s Time For Skin Treatment

Sleep helps to restore and repair each part of our body, including the skin. Adopting any skin treatment and applying at the nighttime is the best to have the finished outcome from it. In simple words, you can have the most out of your skin products at night. Most of the dermatologists and other skin consultants suggest using their prescribed medication of skin treatment products like rosacea creams, retinol, peel pads, masks, and anti-ageing serums at night.

Tips:

  • Make sure you do not apply everything from your prescribed medication as it might cause a risk of irritation on your skin
  • Pick what your skin is requiring that night
  • Don’t use peel pads and masks regularly, and it would work better if you apply twice or thrice in a week

Night Creams

Night Creams

Make sure you do not use the same moisturizer as a morning at night because night creams are different in texture and outcomes. Night moisturizers are thicker and heavier than morning creams and are majorly designed to be absorbed and restore the skin during sleep.

The dense texture of the night moisturizers creates a protective layer on the skin. It does contain a high watery aspect in it that helps to heal and maintain healthy skin.

Tip: Make sure to add a face oil before applying a night moisturizer if your skin is dry. Else, people with other skin type using night cream is the last step.
